If you've been trying to get to the Jinjurly Audiofic Archive, please note that it is down at the moment.  The website itself is up and running, but the DNS registration - the only part that we do not control, has expired.  I've contacted the owner of the domain, and asked them if they can pay the registration -or- transfer the domain to me and I'll register it.  However, we have to wait on them before anything can happen.

In the meantime, please be aware that this is very much not like last time the Archive went down; there are no files lost, we're not hacked, and everything is safe & sound.  We're developing a contingency in case we don't get the domain back.

Please be patient with us!  Let us know if there are any questions.

edit: We're back!  Registration updated & things should be working again.

First of all, I'm happy to say that so far we have found (as of this moment) 2,337 of the 5,441 files that are missing (or 43%)!  This is amazing!  Hopefully by the weekend we can get to 50% or more!

The ssllllooooowww part of this is the processing of files.  Each one can take as few as 2 minutes, or as many as 15.  So this is definitely slow going - and the reason for my post.

If you are interested in helping out/becoming an archivist, great!  But we need a bit more than just an archivist at the moment; We need someone who is knowledgeable with using an FTP client to move files about.  So if you're interested, please let me know.  You can reach out publically in response to this post, but it'd be better if you emailed mific and I at: [email protected]

Thank you in advance if you're interested.  And thank you to everyone who has helped get us this far!

edit: Here's the process that someone has to go through, and thus, here's what I'm looking for:
  • Locate a tan colored line in the spreadsheet where column B is unchecked.  Grab the URL from column A and open that entry in the Jinjurly dtabase.
  • Back in the spreadsheet, go to column K and identify what has been found (an MP3, an M4B, a zip file, or combination). Download the file(s) to your local computer.
  • Edit the entry in the Jinjurly database to identify the file name(s) that are there.
  • Rename the downloaded files, and if appropriate, zip the MP3.
  • Change the MP3 entry in the Jinjurly database to say "downloadable mp3", then copy the line and change "downloadable" to "streamable" and in the file name, change ".zip" to ".mp3" for the streamable entry.
  • SFTP the downloaded files to the appropriate directory on the Jinjurly host.
  • Edit any other necessary details of the Jinjurly entry, then save the edited Jinjurly entry.
  • Test each MP3/ZIP/M4B entry in the edited Jinjurly entry to make sure the streaming one streams, and the zip file(s) download.
  • Tick the checkbox in column B for the item you just restored and tested.
  • Repeat

First of all, thanks to [personal profile] morgandawn  for pointing out that we've been doing this for less than 48 hours and already have 20% of the items in the spreadsheet located.  THANK YOU EVERYONE!

I wanted to give a quick update.  As you can probably tell, we're inundated.  Not only do we have the ~1,000 entries in the spreadsheet to deal with, I personally have been given access to like 100Gb worth of data, and that is great.  We can definitely use this!  However, we ([personal profile] mific and myself) need to balance new requests coming in to post podfics, and the thousands of found entries.  Plus, for me, my job just told me I'll be kicking back in tomorrow, so that means I'll have less time to work on the archive.

If you have new podfics to add, please use this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScGu7WMLpa-Jxef2qubxZXUU3fz50UddzFbsxG2SG06IH6hdA/viewform

A few people have given me data dumps, which is great.  But the thing is, these data dumps sometimes contain hundreds of files that are either already in the archive and are not missing, or aren't eligible to go into the archive because we don't have permission.  I'll eventually be digging through all this data to see if there's stuff that we can use, but because it's such a huge trove of data, it's going to take time that we don't have at the moment.  So datamining will have to go to the bottom of the list.

If you can find things on the spreadsheet and let me know where they are, that is amazing!  And if you have a trove of stuff, that's amazing, too!  But right now we need to focus on what's in the spreadsheet to get stuff done.

Back to it!

All,

We've come to the part of the Jinjurly restore project where we need your help!  If you go to the link below, you'll see the 5,400+ entries in the Jinjurly Audiofic Archive that are missing MP3/M4B files.

First off, the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1n7sLNnTLECHHZfxpMqzWEkEOwSurqypuGDLaqFyTSpQ/edit?usp=sharing

Second, here are some notes to understand:
  • The spreadsheet is editable by anyone with this link in columns I and J only.  If there are other edits/notes (like "Hey, the author on this says X but it should be Y" or the like), please note that you can leave a comment on a cell in just about any cell that you want.  However, if you want me to notice a comment, please keep it in either column I or column J.
  • Column H is marked "podfic located by mods" and is something that [personal profile] mific  was able to fill out before I published this spreadsheet based on either podfics that she personally has, or from a list that we have gathered from other people. For those, unless we say otherwise, you can consider them already found so we don't need another copy.
  • IF you have a copy of either an MP3 or M4B for something on the spreadsheet that is in need (anything with a blank column H) then PLEASE fill out your username and where that username is from (DW/JL/Twitter/Tumblr) so that one of us can contact you should we have questions. In column J, please put the publically downloadable link where we can download the work.
  • The columns are self explanatory, and most of them contain only one value (one URL, one Title, etc). However, if there is more than one Fandom, Author, Reader, or Relationship, those are concatednated together in the same column.  Therefore, if there is a "Stargate Atlantis" and "Leverage" crossover, it won't be listed with either fandom, but will be instead listed by the fandoms in the order they were spit out by the database. Hopefully they are in alphabetical order, but I cannot guarantee this. Spotchecking, I found crossovers like "chronicles of narnia, supernatural" which is in order, but "harry potter, american idol, hawaii five-0, queer as folk (us), stargate atlantis" - which is not.  If in doubt, create a temporary filter and filter the column you want by "contains" and then the fandom/reader/author/relationship that you want.
  • If you try and edit any of the headers, or any data in columns A through H, you'll get an ugly "Hey, you can't edit a protected cell!" message. Don't worry about that - just know you can only edit columns I and J.

Questions?  Concerns?  Let me know!

EDIT: If you can signalboost this somewhere, please and thank you!  And let me and others know where so it can be tracked (so it's not boosted to the same community multiple times, etc).

EDIT 2: I froze the top row and column A per request.

EDIT 3: If a row is completely shaded GREEN that means one of two things: Dark green means that the issue is resolved (the file is in the archive, and the archive entry has been updated with the new link). Light green means that it's something that the archivists have already found and you needn't worry about it.

EDIT 4: If column J is shaded TAN that means that someone has located that podfic and filled in a location for the MP3/M4B.

So Squidge has hosted the Jinjurly audio/podfic archive for a couple of years now, but have only recently taken control of the day-to-day stuff tha needs to be done.  And if you know anything about the Jinjurly archive, you might know that it was hacked a while back, which resulted in the loss of many, many podfics.

Between [personal profile] mific  and myself ([personal profile] squidgiepdx ) we have recovered a number of files for the archive.  These are mostly SGA, but those do make up a significant part of the archive itself.  We've also been revamping things here and there.

Two big things to note: First, if you want to submit something to the archive there is a new form (click here) to submit items!  It'll be embedded in the site soon.

Second thing, if you need to reach us, you can email [email protected] and one of us will get back to you.

Please note: Because so many files are missing, we're going to ask the community to see if they have replacements.  That will be forthcoming in the next while (could be days, could be weeks).
